The auction for the last privately owned artwork of Da Vinci will be held

Auction house Christy’s will put up for sale a picture of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Savior of the World.” This is the last work of an Italian artist which is privately owned. The estimated cost of the canvas, created around 1500, is $100 million, notes ArtNews.

For a long time the original version of the “Savior of the World” was considered lost, and the existing canvas was attributed to one of the students of da Vinci: allegedly he reproduced the work of the master. In the early 2000s, art dealers Warren Adelson, Alexander Parish and Robert Simon purchased the painting for only $ 10,000.

In 2013 – already after the authorship of da Vinci was confirmed — the canvas became the property of Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev. He acquired the work through the mediation of a scandalous art dealer Iva Bouvier. For the picture, the businessman paid $ 127.5 million.
